A Houston (TX) firefighter sustained burns after falling through the roof during operations over the weekend, according to reports.
Firefighter Donovan Apiag, 26, was operating on the roof at an apartment complex fire Saturday morning, February 4, 2023, on Telephone Road when the event occurred, according to KHOU 11.
Senior Captain Joseph Flores told reporters that he and Firefighter Apiag were performing ventilation when conditions worsened, prompting them to try to leave. Part of the roof collapsed, causing Firefighter Apiag to fall through. Senior Captain Flores and another firefighter reached in to grab Apiag, who had fallen through to the attic.
Firefighter Apiag was transported with second- and third-degree burns, according to the report.
